“The aim of God in history is the creation of an all-inclusive Community of people who love one another, with God himself at the very center of this Community as its Prime Sustainer and most glorious Inhabitant” (Richard Foster)
Our Priority:
Rocky Home Churches are one of our top priorities at Rocky Mountain Church. Simply put, as Rocky Mountain Church grows in size, we have to get smaller, choosing to meet in Home Churches around our town throughout the week. These Gatherings are a primary means of building community, growing authentic relationships with both God and others, and in serving our world.
Our Vision:
Rocky Home Churches offer a safe place to build Community, with our new life in Jesus as the basis and foundation for all of our relationships. Our lives together offer tangible evidence to a watching world of the transformation and redemption of our lives through Jesus, our Savior. John 17: 21-23
Our Mission:
We aim to live "counter-cultural" lives together, as a witness to God's transforming love and power. Through the study of God's Word, prayer, worship, service and through deliberate attention to personal and relational transformation, we want the world to witness lives of love for God and one another. Matthew 22:37-39, Acts 2: 42-47
Details: This is about more than simply joining a “small group.” We want to help people get involved in deep relationships with God and one another throughout the week, allowing God to influence the span of our lives. This is also far beyond simply attending church for an hour or two on the weekends. We usually meet weekly with our Home Church, yet the relationships overflow into the rest of our week. Our Gatherings meet in people's homes and are open to all people of Estes Park and beyond.
There are several foundations for each Home Church: the study of God's Word, Prayer, Worship, Community and Mission. Each Home Church is autonomous from other Gatherings, freely choosing what to study, where to invest time, and how to love one another. The members of the Home Church decide the times, locations and study emphases for each Home Church. Each leader has a personal relationship with a “Rocky Home Coach” who walks with them along the Journey of leading their Home Church.
Our Leaders are in that position because they sense God’s call to facilitate a Home Church. They are either members of Rocky Mountain Church or have formally agreed to our Leadership Standards. Their role is primarliy that of a “shepherd” – caring for those in their Gathering. Sometimes, the "sheep" are easy-going, serene and peaceful, yet at other times, they can behave like....sheep! There are times where life is hard for all people, but our leaders view this as a great opportunity to "field test" some new ways of living together. Though we live in a "throw-away society" in America, that is not a prerogative in Christian Community. We believe that growth often comes by walking through the pains of life, not avoiding them.
The size of our gatherings is generally between 10-14 people – small enough to be intimate, and large enough to have dynamic relationships together. Our Home Churches generally meet year-round. Though there are practical realities to all of our schedules, we still support the year-round relationships of Home Churches. Sometimes, our Gatherings are for dinner, movies, hikes, camping or barbecues. Yet, we still ask that the informal commitment of every Home Church member be for a year or two, as relationships take time and investment in order to grow.
Call to Community: We believe that our new life in Jesus is the only answer to the profound malaise of the 21st century. Through Gathering as followers of Jesus in family environments we better experience the modern realitities of the ancient Acts 2 church. We acknowledge and ask the Holy Spirit's empowering to grow our core dependency upon God and our interdependence upon one another. We want to walk the Journey of life toegther, asking God to grow us into deeper love with Him and one another. The Great Commandment becomes great only when it is lived out rather than simply discussed - as a testimony to life and hope in Jesus alone.
